I am an artist. For many years I was primarily a performer (actor, clown, and puppeteer) and a teacher. In more recent years I’ve been working in visual arts and especially pottery. As an artist, I had to understand budgets to survive, and started learning about personal finance on a very small scale. I started putting in a little bit (a very little but it was something!) into my Roth IRA in my twenties and as I learned more and more, I did more and more. I began consuming the growing personal finance media and reading, and over twenty years I have learned so much.
When I looked up, I realized other parents and people in their 30’s and 40’s had not spent the past 20 years learning about personal finance, and needed help understanding the landscape. I find the work exciting and joyful, and I know that for many people, finances are stressful and overly complicated. I realized I can help teach and guide people to find the joy and confidence in knowing their finances that I found.
As a parent of three kids, I am often overwhelmed with all the little decisions that go into daily life. For other parents, I want to help take the financial decisions out of that overwhelming mental load. In just a few focused hours, we can make decisions once, automate what can be automated, and take a lot of big question marks off your plate.
I am able to simplify the often overcomplicated personal finance landscape, and help you focus on the areas that actually matter to you.
I can guide you to open accounts for yourself and help you understand the moves you are making.
It can be joyful and satisfying and empowering to take control of your finances.
It is exciting to align your financial goals with your values.
Planning for the future can bring a kind of peace that you may not know you needed.
